Party Walls

Philip’s extensive experience acting for both developers and their neighbours (‘Building Owners’ and ‘Adjoining Owners’) in all areas of the 1996 Party Wall etc Act, includes residential work for basement extensions, rear extensions, roof extensions and boundary walls, as well as acting on behalf of retail and commercial owners.

Philip has technical experience and attention to detail, ensuring the interests of both owners are respected, timelines are adhered to and cost control is exercised, for example in seeking to mitigate the cost of several surveyors either by acting for both sides where possible, or encouraging adjoining owners to appoint the same surveyor.

As a seasoned Party Wall specialist and longstanding member of the Pyramus & Thisbe Society, Philip uses his knowledge of the Act and relevant case law, combined with many years’ experience to advise owners and developers clearly and thoroughly on their rights and duties under the Act, and to ensure their property interest is safeguarded as far as the Act allows.

Jeremy C, Party Wall work

I recently had the pleasure of working with Philip Smith for a party wall matter, and I must express my utmost satisfaction with the services provided. From start to finish, Philip demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and a thorough understanding of the intricacies of party wall matters and navigated the process with efficiency and clarity. Right from the initial consultation, he took the time to explain the entire procedure, ensuring I had a comprehensive understanding of the steps involved and the potential implications.

Communication was a standout aspect of my experience. Philip was consistently prompt in responding to emails and phone calls, addressing any concerns or questions I had along the way. This proactive approach greatly contributed to a stress-free experience, alleviating any anxieties I initially had about the party wall process.
